The Emotional Wellness Roller Coaster

The Emotional Wellness Roller Coaster

Life is full of ups and downs, and our emotions are the same. One day we're on top of the world, and the next we're feeling down in the dumps. That’s life and that's normal. But when our emotions start to interfere with our daily lives, it's time to pay attention.

Emotional wellness is all about being able to manage our emotions in a healthy way. It's about being able to cope with stress, adversity, and challenges without letting them overwhelm us. It's also about being able to enjoy life and experience our emotions fully, both positive and negative.  One can fully appreciate real happiness if you’ve also experienced sadness, do you agree?

Improving our emotional wellness is a given but how can we do this? Here are a few tips:

  • Identify your triggers. What are the things that typically set off your negative emotions? Once you know what your triggers are, you can start to develop strategies for dealing with them.

  • Learn to manage stress. Stress is a normal part of life, but too much stress can take a toll on our emotional well-being. There are many different stress management techniques out there, such as exercise, relaxation, and mindfulness. Find a technique that works for you and use it regularly.

  • Build strong relationships. Supportive relationships are essential for emotional wellness. Surround yourself with people who care about you and who you can trust and rely on.

  • Take care of yourself. This means eating a healthy diet, getting enough sleep, and exercising regularly. When we take care of our physical health, it also improves our emotional health.

Emotions are not meant to be suppressed.  It needs to be expressed, processed, and released. We know for a fact that bottled-up emotion is like a ticking time-bomb.  It can explode anytime with the right trigger.

Here are some ways on how to deal with our emotions:

  • Acknowledge your emotions. It's important to allow yourself to feel your emotions, even the negative ones. Trying to suppress your emotions will only make them stronger in the long run.

  • Accept your emotions. Once you've acknowledged your emotions, it's important to accept them. This doesn't mean that you have to like your emotions, but it does mean that you have to accept that they are a part of you.

  • Manage your emotions. There are a variety of healthy ways to manage your emotions, such as exercise, relaxation techniques, and journaling. Find what works best for you and stick with it.

If you're struggling to cope with your emotions on your own, don't be afraid to seek support from a friend, family member, therapist, or other mental health professional.

Remember, you are not alone. Everyone struggles with their emotions from time to time. Emotional wellness is a journey, not a destination. So be patient, enjoy the ride, and absorb all the learnings along the way.
